The nomination of candidates for deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation concludes on October 7, BELTA reports.
Any person who has reached the age of 21 has the right to run for a seat in parliament. It is also necessary to permanently reside in Belarus and have no criminal record. Nomination can be done in three ways: by collecting signatures (at least one thousand are required), by a political party, or by a work collective. Legislation allows for the choice of one or more methods.
As of October 4, 283 people have been nominated as candidates for deputies. By this time, a total of 340 sets of documents from participants in the electoral race had been submitted to the election commissions. Political parties have nominated 172 potential candidates for deputies, or 50.6% of their total number. 28.5% of candidates for deputies were nominated by collecting signatures. Slightly fewer nominees are from work collectives - 20.9%.
As of October 4, women constitute 24.4% of the contenders for deputy seats, and young people under 30 - 6.4%. 20 deputies of the current convocation of the House of Representatives (7.1%) will seek re-election. Deputies of local Councils will also attempt to enter parliament, making up 14.1% of the total number of nominees. Regarding the professional activities of the nominees, 18.4% are employed in industry, construction, and transport, 18% are representatives of science, education, healthcare, culture, and sports, and 9.5% are entrepreneurs.
Registration of candidates for deputies will take place from October 8 to 17.
Elections to the House of Representatives are scheduled for November 17, and to the Council of the Republic - for November 7.
