For Belarus, as for many European countries, a characteristic trend is the increase in the average age of women at the birth of their first child. Thus, in 2010, the average age of mothers giving birth for the first time was 24.9 years, and in 2016 – 26.3 years.

As of January 1 of the current year, the number of women of reproductive age in Belarus was 2,247.5 thousand, or 44.3% of the total number of women. Since 2007, more than 100 thousand women have become mothers annually. In 2016, 117.8 thousand children were born, of which 48.5 thousand (41.2%) were firstborns. More than half of the births are related to the birth of second, third, and subsequent children.

It is noteworthy that for several consecutive years, the number of twin births has been increasing in the country. In 2014, twins were born to 1,277 mothers, in 2015 – 1,316, and in 2016 – 1,348. Last year, 18 women gave birth to triplets.

In Belarus, Mother's Day is celebrated annually on October 14. The country is doing everything possible to enable women to fulfil their destiny – to raise and nurture healthy and happy children. The celebration of Mother's Day contributes to the preservation and development of family values, the strengthening of moral principles, and the establishment of a closer bond between children and mothers.
