A sculpture "Echo of Love" was unveiled today at the Bogushevskaya railway station in Senno District, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Dmitry Vasilyevich Bogushevsky, on whose lands the urban-type settlement of Bogushevsk was founded.
During the construction of the Vitebsk – Zhlobin railway in 1899 – 1902, it was decided to build one of the stations here, as it would be equidistant (40 km) from Vitebsk, Orsha, and Senno. Colonel Bogushevsky transferred the land plot free of charge on the condition that the station would be named in honour of his wife – Bogushevskaya.
The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, took part in the solemn ceremony. He thanked everyone involved in the creation of the monument and noted that the love story of Dmitry and Maria Bogushevskys is worthy of a film. Alexander Subbotin stated that with the installation of the sculptural composition, Bogushevsk has become more beautiful and attractive, and expressed hope that the monument will become a starting point, the urban-type settlement will gain a second wind, new production projects will appear here, and people will come.
According to Vyacheslav Bogdanov, Chairman of the Bogushevsky Village Council, the history of Dmitry and Maria Bogushevskys' relationship is carefully preserved by the residents of the urban-type settlement from generation to generation. After his wife's death, Dmitry Vasilyevich moved from Saint Petersburg to Bogushevsk and remained faithful to her. He lived in the Karolino estate, where he established a school for local children.
The initiative of the residents of the urban-type settlement was realised by sculptors Igor Golubev and Sergey Sotnikov, thanks to the sponsorship of the Proskurov family. Dmitry Bogushevsky died in 1903 and is buried not far from the urban-type settlement – in the cemetery in the village of Rybnoye.
An exhibition from the Museum of the History of the Vitebsk Branch of Belarusian Railways was presented in the station building. And in the House of Culture, creative groups from Senno District, the Vitebsk Branch of Belarusian Railways, and Vitebsk State Medical University organised a concert for the residents of the urban-type settlement.
