On the following day, 14 January, the country will be under the influence of an area of high atmospheric pressure. Only in the southwest during the day will an atmospheric front have an effect, so on the night of Old New Year's Eve, light snow is forecast in some areas, mainly in the east; during the day, wet snow and ice phenomena are expected in the Brest and Grodno regions. In the night and morning hours, fog is possible in places, and icy conditions will persist on the roads. Light to moderate variable winds are expected. The temperature will drop to minus 1-7 degrees Celsius at night, and to minus 10 degrees Celsius in the northwestern regions with clear spells. During the day, zero to minus 5 degrees Celsius is forecast, with 2 degrees Celsius above zero still remaining only in the southwestern part of the Brest region.
During the upcoming weekend, cold weather will prevail due to the influx of air masses from Scandinavian countries. On Saturday, snow will fall mainly in the southwestern half of the country; wet snow and rain, fog and ice phenomena are expected in the Brest region, and icy conditions will persist on the roads. Air temperature at night will drop to minus 5-12 degrees Celsius, and to minus 15-18 degrees Celsius in the northeast with clear spells. During the day, it is forecast to be from minus 4 to minus 11 degrees Celsius over most of the country. Only in the extreme southwestern regions will it fluctuate between minus 2 and plus 2 degrees Celsius throughout the day.
On the night of 16 January, precipitation, mainly in the form of wet snow, is expected in the southwest of Belarus, and during the day in the northwestern part of the country. Fog will thicken in places, and icy conditions will persist on the roads. Air temperature on Sunday night will be minus 7-14 degrees Celsius, and in the northeastern regions, the air may cool down to minus 17-20 degrees Celsius. At the same time, in the extreme southwest, minus zero to minus 6 degrees Celsius is forecast. During the day, air temperature will fluctuate between minus 4 and minus 11 degrees Celsius. In the western part of Belarus, it will be from minus 2 degrees Celsius to plus 3 degrees Celsius.
At the beginning of next week, Atlantic cyclones will again open the way for warm air coming from Western Europe. On January 17, daytime air temperatures will range from 2 degrees Celsius below zero in the east to 4 degrees Celsius above zero in the west of the country. Such weather, quite warm for January, will persist in the first half of next week, emphasized Olga Fedotova.
