In Vitebsk, Polotsk, Orsha, and Novopolotsk, some bus stops will be equipped with electronic displays this year, as reported by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Architecture and Construction of the Regional Executive Committee, Sergey Shmatov, during a meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, according to a BELTA correspondent.
According to Sergey Shmatov, the installation of electronic displays is an important component in the creation of a new automated dispatch control system for urban and suburban transport in the Vitebsk region. It is based on a satellite navigation system. "All buses and route taxis in the Vitebsk region performing regular transportation are equipped with navigation terminals. This allows us to track the location of vehicles and adherence to schedules in real-time. Equipment and software have been purchased to form a dispatch service," said the Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Architecture and Construction.
Since March 2019, a display providing information on the arrival of route taxis and trolleybuses has been operating in test mode at the "Lenin Square" stop in Vitebsk. "In July of this year, it is planned to install them in Orsha at the 'Shopping Centre' stop and in Vitebsk at the 'Lenin Library' stop in both directions and at 'Freedom Square' towards Frunze Street. By the end of the year, six more such devices will appear in Vitebsk, three in Polotsk and Novopolotsk, and one in Orsha," added Sergey Shmatov.
The General Director of Vitebskoblavtotrans OJSC, Sergey Starovoytov, stated that the enterprise plans to acquire two articulated trolleybuses with autonomous operation. In the future, the modern "Metelitsa" tram from Stadler may also appear on the streets of Vitebsk.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolay Sherstnev, emphasized the importance of reducing the costs of production and service delivery, improving the quality of transportation, and gradually updating the vehicle fleet of the enterprises.
There are 1852 business entities operating in the Vitebsk region that hold licenses for passenger transportation.
