Two police officers rescued a woman from a burning house in the Dokshitsy district, the information and public relations department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate told BELTA. While on duty for public order protection, Georgiy Strelkovsky, Senior Lieutenant of Police and Inspector of the Traffic Police Department of the Dokshitsy District Department of Internal Affairs, and Aleksandr Gmyza, Major of Police and Senior Inspector of the HR Department of the Dokshitsy District Department of Internal Affairs, noticed a burning residential house while driving along Sovetskaya Street in the village of Porplishche. Near the building, partially engulfed in flames, was the owner, a visually impaired person born in 1942, who informed the police officers about his wife being inside the house. By that time, half of the building, including the entrance door, was completely on fire. Peeking through the window of one of the rooms, the law enforcement officers saw the homeowner lying on the sofa. The room she was in was filled with smoke. The men then broke the window frame and carried out the unconscious woman. Literally a few minutes later, the fire engulfed the entire house. If the police officers had hesitated for even a few seconds, the homeowner would have burned to death without waking up. The correct decision made by the police officers within minutes allowed them to save a human life. This is worthy of respect, the Internal Affairs Directorate is confident. -0-
