Decorating cities hosting the Belarusian Written Language Day with original murals has become a cherished tradition. This year, it has been embraced in Horadok. It is here, on the second and third of September, that the юбилейный, 30th, festival will take place.
On the facade of the building at 20 Sovetskaya Street, facing the central square of the district center, the mural is being completed, featuring the coats of arms of cities that have been honored to host the Written Language Day in different years. An aerial platform from the local Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations is assisting in reaching the necessary height for the artwork.
Svetlana Mozzharova, Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture, and Youth Affairs of the Horadok District Executive Committee, provides some background:
– We thank PSU named after P.M. Masherov for the design of the mural, with the latest one executed in an antique style. The Head of the district, Irina Polyakova, approached the university's rector, Valentina Bogatyreva, who happens to be a native of our district, and she responded with enthusiasm! The image application began about a week ago, and the work is now in its final stages.
In total, by the Written Language Day, ten three-dimensional murals with quotes from both Belarusian literary classics and renowned local writers will be visible in Horadok. For instance, opposite the "Horadok" Cultural and Educational Center, one can already read the unforgettable "My native corner, how dear you are to me!.." by Yanka Kupala. In the children's park, visitors can admire a poignant quote by the poet and translator Vladimir Skorinkin, dedicated to the native Horadok district: "I was born on the land warmed by boulders..." Of course, there will be the well-known from school days "Did any of you, brothers, know Taras?.." from the classic poem "Taras on Parnassus." The spot for the lines from this masterpiece of Belarusian burlesque has been chosen appropriately – opposite the monument to Konstantin Verenitsyn, the author of the work.
Through the efforts of cultural and educational workers, thematic drawings have even appeared on boulders at the entrance to the district center, as well as at bus stops along the Horadok – Ostravlyane route. Specifically, along the tourist route "On the Paths of Taras." Guests of the 2023 Belarusian Written Language Day capital will be invited to embark on a fascinating journey through the native places of Konstantin Verenitsyn.
