In January-September of the current year, the number of road traffic accidents involving pedestrians decreased across the republic (from 714 to 675; -39; -5.5%), as did the number of injured (from 594 to 564; -30; -5.1%) and fatalities (from 118 to 109; -9; -7.6%).

75.2% (82 out of 109) of pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents sustained fatal injuries in the dark.
However, with the shortening daylight hours and deteriorating weather conditions, in the first week of October alone this year, 27 road traffic accidents occurred, in which 3 pedestrians died and 24 were injured.
One of the reasons for fatalities on the roads is collisions with pedestrians, including those on bicycles, who are not equipped with retroreflective elements.
In this regard, from October 18 to 28, the State Automobile Inspectorate is conducting the republican preventive campaign "Save Your Life!".
We remind you that it is retroreflective elements that help drivers see pedestrians and cyclists in the dark.
It is important to attach reflective elements correctly – they should be clearly visible to drivers, not hidden by a bag or clothing folds.
When cycling or driving animal-drawn vehicles on the road in the dark and/or in conditions of insufficient visibility, a lamp emitting white light must be switched on at the front, and a lamp emitting red light at the rear. In addition, cyclists and drivers of animal-drawn carts are recommended to wear high-visibility vests.
In turn, drivers must exercise increased caution when passing pedestrian crossings and driving on highways near populated areas.
