For a decade, the Lepel Traffic Police Department has been paying increased attention to citizens' compliance with the Traffic Regulations concerning children. Preventive events were also held for young residents of Lepel and their parents in anticipation of the summer holidays.

During the "Attention – Children!" special campaign, the traffic police officers of the Lepel District Department of Internal Affairs identified about 300 traffic violations. "The most common violations include drivers failing to use external lighting devices during the special campaign – 88 cases. 3 drivers were held accountable for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 12 for violating child transportation rules. In 7 cases, motorists failed to yield to pedestrians."

Not only law enforcement officers participated in the "Attention – Children!" campaign events: educational institutions, city enterprises, and media representatives joined the preventive efforts. For example, a photojournalist from the newspaper "Lepelsky Krai" joined a road patrol in the city on one of the days and, together with the traffic police officers, could assess drivers' compliance with the law on the roads. Incidentally, the police officers' main goal for the patrol was to explain and warn, rather than to catch and punish: adults and children of the city received informational leaflets and souvenirs as mementos.
