The traditional district youth forum "Our Youth – A Start to the Future" has been held in Lepel. Many, including young specialists themselves, might wonder about its purpose. However, upon becoming participants or even witnesses, skeptics would answer: "It is necessary to learn about the life and spirit of the place where one's professional journey begins, who and how can help resolve housing issues, and what opportunities are available to a young specialist?"
These and other questions were not left unanswered. Approximately 45 recent graduates, assigned to work in the Lepel district, participated in the youth forum. This year, the roster of young professionals has been augmented by representatives from completely different sectors – healthcare, industry, education, economics, and culture. Some of them are native Lepel residents, while a larger portion are from Minsk, Vitebsk, Polotsk, the Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Brest regions, and even from the neighbouring country – Russia.
The guests were welcomed, as always, in the best traditions of Lepel land. There is no room for flattery here, only facts from real observation. The forum participants were first greeted by representatives of the local authorities in the meeting room of the district executive committee. Viktor Azarenok, Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Elena Borodeiko, Head of the Department of Ideological Work, Culture, and Youth Affairs of the District Executive Committee, and Elena Leyko, Head of the Department of Organisational and Personnel Work – these individuals addressed the guests first and set the audience up for a productive and open discussion.
Without lingering on the plenary session, the young specialists were invited on guided tours of facilities in the Lepel district. The first stop on the itinerary was the construction site of a new apartment building on Kalinin Street, followed by a visit to the State Forestry Institution "Lepel Forest Enterprise," and the tour concluded at the Centre for Social, Labour, Social, and Physical Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons. All the facilities visited were chosen deliberately – each served as a good example of the implementation of social programmes in the district and the successful resolution of youth employment issues.
One could speak at length about the facilities themselves, as they truly have something to be proud of. Let us focus on some interesting facts from the day of the forum. For instance, during the visit to the Lepel Forest Enterprise, young specialists were offered
assemble a large wooden puzzle depicting the national flag of Belarus and the inscription "Мы разам" (We are together). The rehabilitation centre for disabled people offered guests to evaluate their new initiative – a mini-cafe operating at the culinary workshop. The children were met with a lavishly laid table with fresh pastries and hot tea. Incidentally, according to the centre's management, the mini-cafe's products will soon be available to all residents of Lepel.
The youth forum concluded with a dialogue session held in the conference hall of the district executive committee. It was there that a heart-to-heart conversation took place. Other government representatives joined the discussion, namely Vladimir Penin, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, and Mikhail Kiselevich, Head of Lepel District. Representatives of services and clergy also participated in the dialogue.
When will Lepel have a swimming pool and even an ice rink? What additional payment to wages should be made for young specialists? Where to apply to resolve housing issues? These and other questions were raised by the forum participants. Each was given a specific answer.
It is gratifying to note that the former students not only asked, requested, or even complained, but also expressed gratitude. They thanked for the warm welcome, for the openness and sincerity of the residents of the Lepel region, for the cleanliness and order in the streets of the town and district.
