In Lepel district, a drunk mother set fire to an apartment because her child had been taken away, the press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, told a BELTA correspondent. A report of a fire in an apartment of one of the houses in the village of Staro Lyadno, Lepel district, was received on the evening of May 5 from neighbours. When the Ministry of Emergency Situations workers arrived at the scene, they discovered heavy smoke in a four-room apartment on the ground floor. The drunk 34-year-old owner was in the apartment. The woman was rescued. She was not injured in the fire. As it turned out, the woman herself was the perpetrator of the incident. The day before, she had been drinking alcohol with her husband, which led to an argument. When her husband left, the angry woman called the police. The arriving police officers found a 12-year-old boy in the apartment with the drunk mother. The child was not left in danger, and within a short time, the commission for juvenile affairs decided to send him to the Lepel orphanage. This turn of events angered the drunk mother even more, and she threatened to set everything on fire. She carried out her threat. The woman was unable to control her behaviour, and medics had to send her to a psychiatric hospital. Unfortunately, the boy will not return to the family soon. Even if his mother recovers from her addiction to alcohol, it will take a lot of time to put the apartment in order after the fire.-0-
