“Careless handling of fire while smoking” – this is the wording most often found in the operational reports of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES). And this problem, despite the large-scale preventive work carried out by rescuers, is unfortunately still relevant.

From November 2 to 30, the republican campaign “Don't Burn Your Life Out!” will be held in the Lepel district. With the aim of reducing the number of fires and deaths, MES employees will cover various target audiences. Initially, from November 2 to 6, the attention of rescue service representatives will be focused on organising information and propaganda events with public transport passengers, visitors to railway station catering facilities, retail outlets, etc. Participants of the campaign will be offered “Safety Routes” and the opportunity to exchange cigarettes, as the cause of a harmful habit not only for health but also for human life, for sweets.

From November 9 to 13, rescuers will visit industrial enterprises and organisations in the city and district. As part of the second stage of the campaign, information days will be held among work collectives on the topic of observing safety rules, as well as information and training events “Show without Cigarettes” in catering facilities.

In the third stage, which will last from November 16 to 20, the target audience for the preventive event will be students of the Lepel Agrarian-Technical College.

The final events of the campaign are planned for the period from November 23 to 30. Interactive platforms from the MES, such as “Conquer Weakness,” “Cigarette for Sweetness,” “Your Health,” a thematic quiz on life safety, etc., will be set up in crowded places. Rescuers will prepare a “Map of Burning Cigarette Butts,” indicating places in the settlement where fires occurred due to careless handling of fire while smoking. Thematic photo zones and creative platforms will be in operation.
