Participants of the "Bibli ночь" (Library Night) event in Vitebsk will be able to immerse themselves in a world of fantasy and creativity, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

The "Bibli ночь-2017" events in Vitebsk will commence this evening at the M. Gorky Central City Library. Guests can expect a true literary immersion. The rich programme includes an introduction to Timur Garipov's exhibition of colour graphics "Fairy Tales of the Old East," the local history project "Vitebsk: From Antiquity to the Present" by the renowned Vitebsk local historian Nikolai Pivovar, a masterclass on 19th-century salon dances by the cultural and historical reconstruction club "Paunochnaya vezha," and the theatrical project "Shakespeare" by the Vitebsk State College of Culture and Arts. The main protagonist of the "Books of My Life" project this year will be Pyotr Laman, a leading actor of the Kolasovsky Theatre. Harry Potter fans will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the magical world in a large game room, discussion enthusiasts are invited to the literary cafe "Pad abazhurem" (Under the Lampshade) or the literary tavern "Knizhny peraplet" (Book Binding), while romantics can enjoy magic tricks and illusions in Vasily Dashkevich's programme, the mysteries of astrology, and a late-night film screening. Furthermore, the organisers have prepared numerous prize draws and surprises.

On September 15, libraries across Belarus celebrate their professional holiday, Library Day. In Vitebsk, this occasion is marked by Library Week, which runs from September 8-15 under the title "A Book Unites Us All" and is dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing. Open days, "How to Get to the Library?" campaigns, the presentation of "Golden Library Cards" to the best readers, literary and musical evenings, multimedia presentations, and oral journals are being held universally.
