The solemn opening of the renovated Sports and Recreation Centre was attended by Vyacheslav Durnov, Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Igor Burmistrov, Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee, Oleg Buevich, Chairman of the Novopolotsk City Council of Deputies, and Denis Fateev, Head of the Sports Department of the Regional Executive Committee.
“Many sports facilities have been built in Novopolotsk, and sport has always been loved here. But time moves on, and therefore all facilities need to be updated. Much has already been done – the Atlant Stadium and the Ice Palace have changed their appearance. Now the oldest sports and recreation centre, Izumrud, is getting a new life. And, of course, this will contribute to not only sport but also physical culture, which is very much needed by all residents, becoming popular and strengthening our youth,” noted Vyacheslav Durnov.
Igor Burmistrov thanked everyone involved in the reconstruction of the facility, which is important for the city, and presented awards to those who distinguished themselves in the work on the Sports and Recreation Centre.
Approximately 3 million roubles were allocated from the city budget for the capital and current repairs of the complex. The work was carried out from December 2024. During the large-scale reconstruction, the roof and the swimming pool basin were capitalised, with the installation of heated walkways and a new automated water treatment system. Engineering systems were modernised: heating, electricity supply, and lighting. In addition, current repairs were carried out in the sauna, sports hall, lobby, showers, and changing rooms, and windows and door units were replaced. The building's facade was updated, and the adjacent territory was landscaped.
The Izumrud Sports and Recreation Centre with a swimming pool is a multifunctional centre that includes a 25-metre swimming pool (6 swimming lanes), a sports hall for training sessions in team sports, a small fitness hall, an outdoor court, and a sauna. The capacity of the sports complex is up to 800 people per day.
