A fire broke out in the dormitory of Lepel PMS, caused by careless handling of fire.

An electric kettle caught fire in a room on the 3rd floor. The rapid spread of smoke led to dense smoke logging on the floor. There was also a casualty in an adjacent room, which required prompt evacuation and first aid. Rescuers arrived promptly upon the alarm signal.

During the drills, conditions were created as close as possible to real ones, so that employees and facility personnel acted in coordination, without panic, understanding each of their steps. Human lives depend on this.

Fortunately, the situation described is a drill for rescuers to practice actions in case of a fire in a dormitory.

To enhance readiness for emergency response, the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, together with representatives of the Lepel District Energy and Gas Inspectorate and KUPP "Borovka", conducted tactical special exercises at the dormitory of Lepel PMS. These are aimed at practicing coordinated actions of personnel, facility administration, and services in extinguishing a fire in a building with a large concentration of people.

After all the scenarios were worked through, the results were summarised. The actions of both rescuers and other services received high praise.

As noted by the First Deputy Head of the Lepel District Department for Emergency Situations, Alexey Girs, the drills allow for improving the professional skills of the commanding and regular staff of the Department for Emergency Situations, enhancing interaction between various units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and other services, and verifying the effectiveness of existing evacuation and fire extinguishing plans. It is also important to increase the vigilance of residents and foster a responsible attitude towards compliance with fire safety rules in order to prevent a real tragedy.

Among the most common violations of fire safety rules in dormitories are careless handling of fire, smoking in prohibited areas (rooms, corridors, restrooms), use of homemade or faulty electrical appliances, leaving them unattended, and overloading electrical networks (connecting a large number of household appliances through one extension cord). It is dangerous to obstruct evacuation routes, clutter corridors, stairwells, and evacuation exits with furniture, personal belongings, and other property, or to lock evacuation exits or block them with foreign objects.
