On May 18, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A vandal who damaged about 30 gravestones has been apprehended in the Orsha district, the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk region informed a BELTA correspondent. From May 1 to May 10, approximately 30 monuments were intentionally damaged at the cemetery near the village of Zaitsevo (Khorobrovo railway station). The suspect in committing this crime has been detained. He is a 25-year-old unemployed resident of the Vitebsk region. The investigation presumes that the man committed the offense while intoxicated and without any specific motive. A criminal case has been initiated against the man under Part 1 of Article 347 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ("Desecration of a corpse or a grave"), which provides for up to three years of imprisonment. The Orsha District Department of the Investigative Committee is identifying the victims affected by the offender's actions. -0-
