The vocal competition is part of the theatrical New Year's contest-parade "Carnival of Father Frosts - 2016", which will take place in Orsha on December 23. Participants in the contest will be teams of fairy-tale characters led by Father Frost and Snegurochka. One of the most striking stages of the competition is the performance of the song "Yolochka" (Little Fir Tree). Contestants will need to make considerable efforts to give the New Year's hit new colours, to perform the song creatively and with talent. In addition, the participating teams will present a New Year's slogan-presentation and an original New Year's decoration or souvenir. About 20 teams from institutions and organisations of the district have declared their intention to participate in the New Year's competition.
The festive event also includes a theatrical procession of fairy-tale characters along Lenin Street and the ceremony of lighting the festive lights on the main Christmas tree of the Orsha district on the square near the Jesuit Collegium. Festive trade, an exhibition of toys and souvenirs, entertainment programmes for children and adults, and fun New Year's games will be organised. The carnival will conclude with a dance flash mob.
