Despite the efforts of the State Automobile Inspectorate units to improve and enhance the effectiveness of preventive measures for road traffic safety, the safety status of passenger road transport does not meet the required standards.
An analysis of the causes and conditions of road traffic accidents indicates that violations of the Road Traffic Regulations by drivers engaged in passenger transport, as well as the requirements of other legislative acts concerning the safe execution of such transport, continue to occur.
Over the past 8 months, special technical means operating in automatic mode have recorded over 9,000 instances of speeding by bus drivers, which points to a low level of road safety in passenger transport.
There are also cases of drivers being allowed to participate in road traffic without mandatory pre-trip medical examinations or checks, vehicles operated by drivers lacking the required experience, and vehicles for which no permit to participate in road traffic has been issued.
In order to improve road traffic safety and prevent incidents during activities related to passenger transport, the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Republic of Belarus is conducting a preventive campaign from September 26 to October 2, 2019, to monitor compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations by drivers engaged in passenger transport activities.
