In the Year of Peace and Creation, a series of physical culture and health-improving events titled "Sports Country – Healthy Nation" is being implemented in Polotsk District. Behind this concise title are vibrant and creative sports events. One of them will be held for the first time in Polotsk this Friday, February 3. More than a hundred Polotsk residents, who are keen on sports and a healthy lifestyle, are preparing for an engaging quest called "Night Ski Track".
The idea for the event, which has been actively supported by the district leadership, belongs to the Polotsk Physical Culture and Sports Club "Pridvinye". Its director, Alexey Vanko, said:
— The "Night Ski Track" quest is a dynamically exciting race, to which we invite everyone. We can already say that over a hundred enthusiasts have shown interest. They will start from the monument "Partisan's Oath" and finish near the sign dedicated to border guards of all generations on the embankment opposite St. Sophia Cathedral. Interestingly, the equipment will include not only standard skis but also headlamps. The competitive style will be free, and the race format will be a mass start.
To assist the skiers, a map-scheme will be provided, marking historically significant objects within the territory of the Park named after the 50th Anniversary of Soviet Power (near the Mound of Immortality). Participants will need to take a selfie at each of these locations. Additionally, at the task points, participants will be able to find specific letters to assemble the phrase "Peace and Creation" by the end of the event.
The organizers of the event are the Polotsk District Trade Union Association, the district organization of the NGO "BRSM", the education department of the Polotsk District Executive Committee, the district organization of the ROO "Belaya Rus", and the FSK "Pridvinye".
There is enough snow for the race to be a success, the organizers assured. Excellent weather, with forecasters predicting a slight minus temperature, will also set everyone in a sporty and positive mood. Both beginners and true "connoisseurs" of snowy trails will be able to feel the romance of evening ski walks, enjoy the winter nature, and improve their health. The emotions and impressions from the "Night Ski Track" will be unforgettable, promises Alexey Vanko:
— However, we have also taken care of a pleasant memento. Participants will be presented with a badge with the event's logo at the finish line. You won't get cold! Everyone will be treated to hot tea from the Polotsk District organization of the NGO "Red Cross", as well as a group photo in the light of the lanterns: against the backdrop of our cultural, spiritual, and tourist gem – St. Sophia Cathedral.
