15 August, Minsk /BelTA correspondent/. The Ministry of Education proposes to amend the current rules for admission to higher education institutions of Belarus. This was announced today during an online conference on the BelTA website by the Minister of Education, Sergey Maskevich. According to him, the Ministry of Education, higher education institutions, and the State Commission for the Control of Entrance Campaigns are aimed at introducing changes. The latter is to summarize the results of the current entrance campaign and present its proposals. "Then we can discuss what changes are possible in the admission rules for next year," the minister said. He clarified that this primarily concerns the introduction of changes that were discussed last year – simplifying the preferential admission system and shifting all benefits from the time of admission to the period of study at the university. "Furthermore, we will focus on raising the requirements for applicants. The passing score that allows participation in the competition will be increased," explained Sergey Maskevich. In addition, the Ministry of Education plans to expand opportunities for the export of educational services. "This year, we have taken certain steps to allow citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, as well as foreign citizens, to be admitted to Belarusian institutions through an interview," the minister said. Other changes are also possible, which will be aimed at simplifying the enrollment system, increasing demand for educational services, and tightening requirements for applicants. Changes to the admission rules were also planned last year. However, the Head of State then decided to extend the validity of the current rules for another year. -0-
