Ahead of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, a motor rally in memory of heroes was launched in Vitebsk.

In anticipation of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, investigators from Belarus and Russia have honoured the memory of those who liberated their Motherland from the Nazi invaders.

The solemn opening of the international motor rally took place in Vitebsk at the memorial complex honouring Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans, and underground fighters on Victory Square.

Future colleagues – students of the Law Faculty of PSU named after P. Masherov – joined the investigators from the two countries. Together, they laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the memorial.

The large-scale project involves employees of the Investigative Committee departments for Vitebsk, Gomel, Minsk, and Mogilev regions, representatives of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia, and the investigative departments of the Investigative Committee for Bryansk and Smolensk regions. Participants of the commemorative route will visit the memorial complex "For Our Soviet Motherland" (Orsha), the memorial of military glory "Ludchitskaya Height" (Bykhovsky district), and the memorial complexes "Ola" (Svetlogorsky district) and "Ozarychi" (Kalinkovichsky district), where ceremonies will be held.

– A commemorative motor rally of this scale is being held on our land for the first time and symbolises the unity of our two peoples. It is a tribute to the fallen. The route of the motor rally passes through three regions – Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Gomel. I am confident that such a tradition will continue, and together with our Russian colleagues, we will visit memorable places in Smolensk, Bryansk, Pskov, and other regions, – emphasised the Head of the Investigative Committee Department for Vitebsk Region, Colonel of Justice Alexander Gutska.

– It is very important to remember our great-grandfathers and grandfathers who, at the cost of their lives, won Victory and a peaceful future. Such events are necessary to pass on the memory of the victors to the youth and thus support patriotic education and intergenerational connection. Together with our Vitebsk colleagues, we have planned joint vigils of remembrance in the Smolensk region, where search parties are still finding the remains of Soviet soldiers who heroically died for the liberation of our common Motherland. One of these vigils will take place in August, – noted the Head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Smolensk Region, Major General of Justice Anatoly Ukhanov.
