On the eve of Victory Day, a photo exhibition "Roads of Memory. Saint Petersburg – Vitebsk" opened in the regional centre at the "Vitebsk" Concert Hall. The exhibition is organised as part of the "Unforgotten" project.
The centrepiece of the exhibition features works by Valentina Kapachevskaya, a native of Vitebsk now residing in Saint Petersburg. On her way to her homeland, she stopped by monuments and visited settlements with military burial sites. This gave rise to the exhibition's idea – to showcase sacred places along the road of memory.
– The photographs capture not the well-known, iconic memorials, but graves and monuments located away from crowded places and major highways. All of them are well-maintained. It is evident that in small settlements, people remember the great feat of Soviet soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom and peaceful skies, – noted Gleb Lapitsky, Member of the Council of the Republic, General Director of the "Vitebsk" Cultural Centre.
The exhibition also includes photographs by Vitebsk residents who brought pictures of soldiers' graves taken during visits to relatives and outings in various parts of the Vitebsk region. Incidentally, during the exhibition's run (until May 15), it can be supplemented with new testimonies on the "Road of Memory".
– The "Unforgotten" campaign unites people. On the opening day of the exhibition, there were many young faces. I am confident that in the following days, young people, who worthily carry the torch of memory, will also visit, – emphasised Gleb Lapitsky.
