Events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan were held at Sloboda Secondary School.

Veterans of international service met with pupils of the Slobodskaya Secondary School named after N.M. Pshenko of Lepel District, led by Sergey Krivel, Chairman of the Lepel District Organisation of the "Belarusian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan". Servicemen of the 231st Artillery Brigade, representatives of the military commissariat, and the Lepel organisational structure of "DOSAAF" also participated in the events.

The event concluded with a rally in the village of Veleivshchina at the grave of Vladimir Sadovsky, who died in Afghanistan while fulfilling his international duty and was posthumously awarded the Order of the Red Star.

To date, the names of twenty-five natives of the Slobodskoye village council who served in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989 are known. A number of them were awarded USSR Orders and Medals for fulfilling their international duty.
