During the first stage of the republican preventive campaign "Attention – Children!" rescuers from Lepel district, together with activists of the district branch of the Belarusian Youth Public Association for Rescue (BYPA) placed a set of firefighting gear, a fire extinguisher, and an autonomous smoke detector with the attention-grabbing inscription "For children left unattended" in the children's clothing and stationery departments of the city department store. Both adult shoppers and their children were invited to participate in the "Extinguish the Fire" competition and a quiz where adults and children demonstrated their knowledge of life safety fundamentals. It is worth noting that some schoolchildren demonstrated a higher level of knowledge than their parents. Preventive talks were also held with shoppers, recommending the purchase and installation of autonomous smoke detectors in their homes for safety purposes, urging them not to leave their children unattended, and providing examples of tragic child fatalities. To reinforce the information received, all participants were given visual aids.
