Rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Vitebsk had to respond to an unusual incident yesterday, rescuing a 90-year-old woman who had become trapped by her own flowerbed. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the duty operations department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. At 10:37 AM, the duty department received a report that an elderly woman had become stuck in a metal flower frame located outside the window of a room in a residential building on Gagarin Street. Apparently, the woman, later identified as born in 1922, had intended to water her flowers and misjudged her strength. As a result, she became stuck up to her waist and was suspended at the level of the 4th floor. Passers-by informed the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the incident. A fire truck with an extendable ladder was used to rescue the unfortunate elderly woman. The ambulance crew that arrived at the scene confirmed that the amateur gardener did not require medical assistance. It should be added that the centenarian lives with her granddaughter, who was not at home at the time of the incident. The duty operations department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also reported that over the past 24 hours, two fires occurred at hay storage facilities in the republic. In the Grodno region, approximately 20 tonnes of hay were destroyed and 78 tonnes were damaged by fire, while in the Gomel region, about 100 tonnes of hay were destroyed. The causes of the fires are being investigated. In total, over the past 24 hours, 13 fires occurred in Belarus, resulting in 3 fatalities, one person rescued, and 9 structures damaged. -0-
