On November 11, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A traffic police inspector has been convicted of bribery in Vitebsk, the head of the anti-corruption and organized crime department of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office, Yevgeny Lapkovsky, told a BELTA correspondent.
For receiving a bribe of Br1 million, the former State Automobile Inspectorate employee was sentenced to five years of restriction of liberty and deprived of the right to work in law enforcement agencies for the same period.
The events that led the law enforcement officer to the dock unfolded as follows. In May of this year, while on duty at one of the city intersections, a traffic police officer stopped a car, the driver of which was suspected of drinking alcohol. Having removed the man from driving the car, he offered the offender to conceal this fact for a monetary reward. The bribe-giver and the negligent inspector were detained during the transfer of money.
In total, over ten months, 7 corruption offenses committed by law enforcement officers were detected in the Vitebsk region. "Along with this, it should be noted isolated cases in which representatives of this system honorably fulfill their duty, not succumbing to the persuasion of bribe-givers," emphasized Yevgeny Lapkovsky. Thus, in accordance with Art. 431 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, an illegal seller of non-ferrous metal, who tried to conceal his offense by giving an employee of the KGB department a bribe of $800 and Br600 thousand, was convicted. Currently, a criminal case is being investigated against a resident of Orsha, who, in order to stop the inspection of the fact of detention of a cargo with forged documents, gave an employee of the ninth department (for the Vitebsk region) of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus $8 thousand. -0-
