21 May, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. In Vitebsk, a daughter set fire to her father's cohabitant in revenge for her drunkenness, the press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, told a BELTA correspondent.
A report of a fire in an apartment was received on the evening of May 20. Arriving emergency response units discovered a fire in the corridor of a two-room apartment located on the ground floor of a one-story brick residential building. The owner of the apartment, a 58-year-old Group II invalid who uses a wheelchair, was already outside by this time. His 66-year-old cohabitant was carried out of the fire by neighbours before the firefighters arrived.
The suspected cause of the fire is arson by the owner's daughter, born in 1986. Quarrels constantly arose between the owner's daughter and his cohabitant because the latter had a negative influence on her father: she herself abused alcohol and made the man drink. During another quarrel, the daughter doused the woman with gasoline and set her on fire. The pensioner was taken to the regional hospital with a diagnosis of "burns of 2nd-3rd degree to the arms and back," with 45% of her body surface affected. She is currently in intensive care in serious condition.
The case materials have been handed over to law enforcement agencies. -0-
