23 November, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. In the Vitebsk region, 80 out of 100 illegal alcohol sellers are detected by law enforcement officers thanks to citizen reports, stated Vladimir Pronko, Deputy Head of the Public Order and Crime Prevention Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, to journalists.
Interaction with the public remains one of the main methods of crime prevention. According to Vladimir Pronko's assessment, citizens' attitudes towards law enforcement agencies have noticeably improved recently. "People have started to trust the police more and report illegal actions more frequently," he added. For example, a few days ago, a security guard at one of the Vitebsk enterprises, during his night shift, noticed two suspicious individuals operating near a car not far from the territory he was guarding. The guard called the police, and it turned out to be justified: the detainees were found to be involved in a series of thefts. The Internal Affairs Directorate intends to reward the vigilant citizen in a formal ceremony.
In Vladimir Pronko's opinion, targeted work is being carried out in the region to implement the law "On the Fundamentals of Crime Prevention Activities." A stable decrease in the crime rate in the region can be considered a result of this activity. Since the beginning of the year, the number of murders and attempted murders in the region has decreased by more than a quarter, and the number of hooliganism, robberies, and aggravated robberies is also decreasing. It is also noteworthy that out of 20,000 citizens under preventive supervision in the Vitebsk region, only two have committed serious crimes.-0-
