20 June, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. Farmers in the Vitebsk region have prepared 6 centners of feed units per conventional head of cattle, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

The committee notes that the pace of fodder preparation has recently increased. Every day, 10 thousand hectares of grass are mown in the region, which is 4% of the total area. A total of 60% of the first mowing of grass has been harvested. 920 thousand tons of silage, 40 thousand tons of hay, and 10 thousand tons of haylage have been prepared.

24 balers are working in the fields of the region, packing fodder into polymer film. The Vitebsk and Postavy districts are more actively implementing modern technologies in fodder preparation. The farmers of these regions have 8 and 5 balers with wrapping machines, respectively. The Regional Committee for Agriculture and Food emphasized that the farms of the region will continue to purchase fodder wrapping units throughout the summer season, and their number will significantly increase by the end of the season.

Along with fodder preparation, farmers in the region are weeding and fertilizing corn crops, which will yield significant amounts of fodder in late summer and autumn. Fertilizers are being applied to fields with cereals, rapeseed, and potatoes, and cereals are being treated against diseases and pests.

The first mowing of grass in the region is planned to be completed by the end of the month, but the preparation of fodder for the second mowing will begin in some regions next week. The region plans to prepare 30 centners of feed units per conventional head of cattle. -0-
