In the Vitebsk region, Br2.5 billion was allocated for the organisation of temporary employment in January-July of the current year, the Committee for Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. In total, over seven months, almost 4.5 thousand students have been employed in the region in this area, which is 128% of the annual target. Under the "Youth Practice" programme, 161 unemployed individuals were employed in student jobs created by employers on a contractual basis with the labour, employment and social protection departments of city and district executive committees during the reporting period. "This is an effective area of work for the state employment service, which allows young people who have completed their education but lack work experience to acquire professional practical skills and abilities, and in the future, to obtain permanent employment," specialists emphasised. Within the framework of temporary employment for students during their free time from studies, over 2.7 thousand pupils from grades 8-11 were employed. Priority in temporary employment was given to children from dysfunctional, large, and single-parent families, as well as children registered with the commission for juvenile affairs and the juvenile inspection department of the internal affairs bodies, orphans, and children left without parental care. The main types of work performed by students include landscaping of educational institution territories, maintenance of monuments, repair of school furniture, routine repair of educational institution premises, book repair, archaeological excavations, sewing of soft furnishings for territorial centres for social services of the population in cities (districts) and boarding schools, and sewing costumes and curtains for their own needs. Regarding the overall youth employment situation, the committee reported that in the first 6 months of 2012, almost 9.5 thousand individuals aged 16-29 applied to the employment service for assistance, of whom about 6 thousand were registered as unemployed. Taking into account the carry-over from the beginning of the year, 7.5 thousand young people were on the official labour market. During the six months, assistance in employment was provided to 6.8 thousand young citizens, including 4 thousand unemployed. Assistance in job searching was received by 54.4% of those in need of employment, meaning every second person.
