The supply of heat to social facilities has begun in the Vitebsk region, Anatoly Sudak, head of the production and technical department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's housing and communal services department, informed a BELTA correspondent. Based on the decision of the operational group of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the phased connection of heating to kindergartens, schools, and hospitals began in the region on October 8. As of today, by the decision of the chairman of the regional executive committee, universities, vocational education institutions, and their dormitories have also been included in the list of these facilities. "The connection of heating in accordance with the established procedure begins when the average daily air temperature is established at plus 10 degrees Celsius and below for five days; however, due to a sharp cold snap, it was decided not to wait for this period," noted Anatoly Sudak. The connection of residential buildings will begin after the average daily temperature drops to 8 degrees Celsius for five days. According to weather forecasters, this will not take long. Thus, over the past day, the average daily temperature in Vitebsk was 8.1 degrees Celsius, and in the region - 6-7 degrees above zero. As reported by the Vitebsk Regional Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, moderately cold weather will persist in the region in the near future, with night temperatures of plus 1-6 degrees Celsius (frosts are possible during clear spells), and daytime temperatures of 5-10 degrees Celsius above zero. -0-
