This spring, the Vitebsk region plans to procure 1.4 thousand tons of birch sap, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Igor Kurochkin, Head of the Production and Sales Department of the Vitebsk State Production Forestry Association.
Forestries in the region began procuring birch sap last week. Approximately 500 tons of sap have already been collected, with 100 tons exported to Lithuania and sold to the population and canning factories in Belarus. The remaining portion of the beverage is being prepared for sale.
"The fact that sap procurement started slightly later than usual will not affect its quality. Southern regions of the country are already completing sap procurement. The Vitebsk region, being the northernmost, started later, so procurement is still underway here. The final quantity of procured beverage will depend on demand," noted Igor Kurochkin.
Anyone wishing to procure sap can do so independently. To do this, it is necessary to contact the local forestry office, where specialists will show and explain where and how to tap birch trees. Others can purchase the beverage at forestries; one litre costs approximately 30 kopecks.
