21 April, Vitebsk /Diana Kurilo - BELTA/. The Vitebsk region will have its own "Artek". This was announced today to journalists by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, during the republican subbotnik, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
Half of the funds earned during the subbotnik will be allocated by the region to the construction of the Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Minsk. "This is a fair decision. We must honor the memory of our fathers and grandfathers who defended the country. Thanks to them, we live in a peaceful, sovereign Belarus," said the governor.
The remaining funds will remain in the regional budget and will be designated for the reconstruction and refurbishment of children's health resorts. The largest portion will go towards the restoration of the "Vityaz" camp, which the joint-stock company of the same name is transferring to communal ownership. This camp is located 40 km from Vitebsk in a pine forest. The camp features seven brick dormitory buildings with rooms designed for three to four people, with en-suite showers and toilets in the rooms. There is also a residential building for staff, medical and utility buildings, a club-canteen with three dining halls and an assembly hall, a boiler room, an artesian well, a summer stage, and a campfire area with a dance floor. A stadium with a football field, basketball and volleyball courts are equipped for sports. The camp has its own body of water and a well-equipped beach. Up to 570 children can rest here per shift. "A model regional children's camp will be created here – a kind of Vitebsk 'Artek'," stated Alexander Kosinets.
However, this does not mean that other children's camps will be neglected. The "Lenok" camp, transferred to communal ownership by the Orsha Flax Combine, will be brought into proper condition, as will the "Kolos" camp, where children of agro-industrial complex workers will rest. "We will do everything necessary to ensure that children's recreation is organized, so that children grow up strong, healthy, and intellectually developed. Children are our main strategic resource," emphasized Alexander Kosinets.
To bring the children's health resorts into proper condition, several more subbotniks are planned to be organized in the region. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee also intends to participate in them.
According to preliminary data, today the Vitebsk region intends to transfer at least Br4.7 billion to the fund of the republican subbotnik, which significantly exceeds last year's amount.-0-
