Farmers in the Vitebsk region have begun selective harvesting of grain crops, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Regional Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.

"Some farms in 7 districts of the region have started harvesting grain crops. Combines have entered fields located on light sandy soils. Winter wheat is mainly being harvested. The average yield is almost 36 centners per hectare," the Regional Committee for Agriculture and Food noted.

According to operational information, as of the morning of August 1, a total of 255 hectares of grain fields have been threshed across the region, which is about 0.1% of the areas sown with grain and leguminous crops. In total, the region's grain growers will have to harvest grain from an area of 343.4 thousand hectares.

The harvesting of winter rapeseed is actively underway in the region. Machinery has covered about 34% of the areas sown with this oilseed crop. The yield of oilseeds is 15.6 centners per hectare.
