A month-long tree and shrub planting campaign is underway in the Vitebsk region as part of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection's ecological initiative "Let's Embellish Our Small Homeland".
According to Marina Galich, Head of the Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the main idea is that every resident or organisation can contribute to the improvement and greening of their locality. The ecological campaign also includes clean-up drives, events, and other activities aimed at tidying up and improving territories. Over three weeks in October, enthusiasts have planted more than 27,000 trees and shrubs. This includes plantings in the regional centre, Polotsk, Miory, Verkhnedvinsk, Senno, Beshenkovichi, Novolukoml, and the Gluboksky, Postavsky, Lepelsky, and Lioznensky districts. The campaign will continue in the coming days. Specifically, family alleys are planned to be established in Begoml, Dokshytsy district, and Baran, Orsha district. In Vitebsk, new greenery will appear along General Ivanovsky Street, Leningradskaya Street, and on the Beshenkovichi Highway. The Regional Co-ordinating Environmental Council will also participate in the campaign. This coming Friday, an off-site meeting of the RCEC will be held in Orsha, after which its participants will plant 60 trees in Heroes' Park.
