A computer tomography office has been opened at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Center of Pulmonology and Phthisiology.

The opening of a computed tomography (CT) scanning room at the Regional Clinical Centre of Pulmonology and Phthisiology in Vitebsk is a logical step towards providing patients with higher quality medical services.

Recently, this healthcare institution has changed its status, transforming from an anti-tuberculosis dispensary into a multidisciplinary centre. From July 1, it will be joined by branches of anti-tuberculosis departments in Polotsk and Novopolotsk, and a specialized dispensary in Orsha. As noted by Chief Physician Sergey Moiseev, the focus will now be on treating patients with bronchopulmonary pathology. The CT scanning room, equipped with a Japanese 128-slice computed tomograph, will help in timely diagnosis of diseases, differentiated treatment of patients, and monitoring the course of their illness. This will eliminate the need to transport patients to other institutions for examinations. Funds for the acquisition of the equipment were allocated through centralized procurement by the Ministry of Health. In just one month, using funds allocated from the regional budget, amounting to 288 thousand rubles, the room has been equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, which will be used not only for the centre's own needs but also for other healthcare institutions, the chief physician emphasized. Highly qualified specialists, together with staff from two departments of VSMU operating at the centre, will be able to provide the most qualified assistance in the treatment of various bronchopulmonary diseases, including those complicated by COVID-19.

For operating the new CT scanner, some staff members of the radiology department have already undergone training at other institutions in Vitebsk that have similar equipment.

The Vitebsk Regional Clinical Centre of Pulmonology and Phthisiology (VOKCPiF) includes a dispensary department, a radiology department, a clinical diagnostic laboratory, two inpatient pulmonology departments with 96 beds, and an intensive care unit with 6 beds. A CT scanning room has also been established.

This is the third computed tomograph received by our region this year, emphasized Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Healthcare Department. By the end of the current year, two more CT scanning rooms will be equipped, and an MRI unit will be installed in Polotsk.
