The centre for mythological tourism has opened in the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve. It includes a museum of mythological creatures, an open-air exhibition "Mythological Hamlet," and an eco-trail.
The museum and the open-air exhibition will tell tourists about Belarusian mythology and the deities who, according to legends, inhabited forests, swamps, fields, and water bodies, in an unusual format.
The project organisers place special hopes on the eco-trail. It features 17 installations by Belarusian artists and designers.
A night excursion has been developed, where tourists go on the eco-trail at night with a guide. The walk includes animation elements and unexpected moments: a Kikimora might grab your leg, someone might be shown a frog – there will be plenty of impressions.
A Candidate of Sciences assisted in developing the theme. Such a centre is a unique experience for Belarus. It will attract more visitors to the reserve and the Lepel district. This district, incidentally, accounts for 25% of the tourist flow to the Vitebsk region. The development of new facilities is particularly relevant in connection with the five-day visa-free regime. We believe this will be of interest to foreign tourists.
The centre was established on the initiative of the public association "Rest in the Village" within the framework of a UNDP project and with financial support from the European Union.
On the eco-trail, 17 unique installations created by Belarusian designers and sculptors await tourists, and in the museum, you can learn about the most prominent and interesting characters of our mythological heritage – the Tsmok, Lesavik, Pushchevik, and others, as well as about national rituals and symbols.
