On November 2, Vitebsk /BelTA correspondent/. Border guards and customs officers today detained the largest batch of contraband cigarettes in recent years in the Vitebsk region, reported to BelTA the assistant head of the Polotsk Border Detachment for Media Relations, Denis Glebko.
During the verification of operational information received by border guards, servicemen of the Polotsk Border Detachment, together with customs officers and employees of the internal affairs department on transport, discovered cigarettes concealed from customs clearance in a covered wagon of a freight train en route to Daugavpils from Polotsk station. The tobacco products were transported under the guise of firewood: on a pallet, there were packed boxes with cigarettes, which were covered with firewood. The transported cargo was also declared as firewood according to the documents.
An investigation is underway regarding this fact. The count of cigarettes is already in the hundreds of thousands of packs.
According to Denis Glebko, this is the largest batch of contraband cigarettes detained at the border with the EU in the last two years. -0-
