"A Letter from the Police" - A New Scam That Belarusians Are Already Falling For

A 19-year-old young man received a call from "Belpochta" (Belarusian Post). A calm voice informed him that a registered letter from law enforcement agencies had arrived in his name. To "receive the shipment," he simply needed to confirm his details and provide a code from an SMS message, as per the standard procedure.

Everything then followed a classic scenario. A "detective" started messaging him on a messenger app, using pressure, threats, and alarming language: illegal transfers, a potential criminal case, a search. The young man was so intimidated that he transferred 3500 rubles to the scammers, believing he was "resolving the issue."

From this story, it is important to remember: - genuine law enforcement agencies do not communicate via messenger apps; - they do not request codes from SMS messages; - they do not "process cases" over the phone.

The entire scheme is built on fear and haste. While a person is panicking, they are controllable.

Remember: if you receive a call from "the police" asking you to do something urgently, it is not assistance. It is a scam.
