On July 16, Minsk / Ekaterina Nechaeva - BELTA /. Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko and Chairman of the Council of the Republic Anatoly Rubinov will take part in the III World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, which will be held from July 19 to 21 in Geneva. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the press service of the House of Representatives. It is planned that the speakers of both chambers of the Belarusian Parliament will speak at the conference during the general debate on the topic "Parliaments in a World of Crisis: Ensuring Global Democratic Accountability and Responsibility for the Common Good". In particular, Vladimir Andreichenko will reflect on "the issues of the global crisis and the key role of parliament in the post-crisis development of society". A number of bilateral meetings and negotiations with heads of foreign parliaments are also planned. By the way, more than 150 speakers of parliaments of the member states of the Inter-Parliamentary Union have announced their participation in the forum. The conference will also feature reports on the work done since 2005, and its participants intend to discuss the progress in achieving the development goals proclaimed in the UN Millennium Declaration, what should be the global standards of democratic parliaments, and ways to strengthen the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its relationship with the UN. The outcome of the conference should be the signing of a declaration consistent with the main theme of the forum "Parliaments in a World of Crisis: Ensuring Global Democratic Accountability and Responsibility for the Common Good". The World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is an authoritative forum that takes place once every 5 years and is of great political importance for strengthening the position of each state in the international arena and developing cooperation with the parliaments of other countries. The heads of both chambers of the National Assembly of Belarus took an active part in the 1st and 2nd World Conferences of Speakers of Parliament, which were held in 2000 and 2005 at the UN headquarters in New York.
