On December 20, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers has informed the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Healthcare Department of its participation in an investment project to expand and strengthen the material and technical base of the Braslav Regional Tuberculosis Rehabilitation Center for Adolescents, the head of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Healthcare Department, Yuri Derkach, told a BELTA correspondent.
As stated in the letter received by the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Vatican intends to allocate funds in 2012 for the construction of new dormitory and treatment buildings for the center, as well as for the purchase of equipment. Co-financing is expected to be carried out on a parity basis.
The implementation of this project will make it possible to double the number of places in the rehabilitation center from 50 to 100, and to create comfortable conditions for the recovery of sick adolescents. At the same time, half of the places will be provided free of charge to Belarusian young men and women, and the remaining places will be allocated among young citizens of other European countries. Their rehabilitation will be carried out on a paid basis.
The Braslav Rehabilitation Center was established in 1946. Currently, the center is a specialized medical and preventive institution within the healthcare system of the Republic of Belarus for year-round treatment and medical rehabilitation of adolescents with respiratory tuberculosis, for chemoprophylaxis and preventive treatment of tuberculosis-infected individuals and adolescents from tuberculosis contacts, and for the isolation of adolescents from tuberculosis foci. At the same time, 50 young men and women aged 14-17 can receive assistance here. -0-
