On July 11, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Wakeboarding has arrived in Belarus. The country's first linear cableway for water skiing has started operating in the Polotsk district, BELTA was informed at the Polotsk District Executive Committee. Wakeboarding is an extreme sport that is gaining popularity every year, combining water skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding. There are two types of wakeboarding: cable wakeboarding and boat wakeboarding. Cable wakeboarding can now be enjoyed on the lake near the village of Gvozdovo, not far from Polotsk and Novopolotsk. The organiser of the new entertainment is German Belyakov, a Master of Sport of International Class in water skiing, a multiple winner and prize-winner of the World Cup stages, US Masters, Ukraine Open, and other prestigious international water skiing competitions. The presentation of this new sports entertainment for Belarus will take place on July 21. The programme includes demonstration performances by riders from Minsk and St. Petersburg. Free water skiing sessions will be organised for those wishing to experience the thrill. The organisers will provide instruction and necessary equipment. Local authorities will ensure that other holidaymakers also have a comfortable and enjoyable time by organising festive trade, contests, and entertainment for spectators. Although the widespread introduction of wakeboarding is yet to come, it has been very popular among local residents since the first days of operation. As noted at the District Executive Committee, such entertainment, organised by professionals, contributes to the development of tourism in the district and promotes a healthy active lifestyle. -0-
