A delegation of veterans of the 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division is visiting places of military glory in the Vitebsk region, the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Veterans Gennady Gerasimovich told a BELTA correspondent. The delegation includes veterans of the division, the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and representatives of the Vilnius City Hall. The route covers Polotsk and Gorodok districts – places where fierce battles involving the 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division took place during the war. Thus, on the eve of their visit, the delegation members participated in solemn rallies and laid flowers at military graves near the villages of Bulavki and Yurovichi on Polotsk land, and visited two rural schools where they met with students. Today, the guests will visit the Gorodok district. Here, they are scheduled to visit places of military glory near the villages of Vaikhany and Selishche, call in at Gorodok, get acquainted with the local history museum, and meet with veterans of the Great Patriotic War and youth. Then, the Lithuanian veterans will head to the Pskov region, where their division was formed. "This meeting with Lithuanian veterans reminds us once again of the need to remember history and be proud of the feat of our people," Gennady Gerasimovich added. -0-
