30 April, Vitebsk /Olga Bogacheva - BELTA/. Residents of Glubokoye will today begin to realise their dream - the first cherry orchard will be laid in the town, which is vying for the title of the cherry capital of Belarus, the Glubokoye District Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The most exciting event of this spring will bring together the residents of Glubokoye on the Polotsk direction near M. Gorky Street. Representatives of local authorities, enterprises, organisations, public associations, the Council of Elders, laureates of different years of the "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region" title, best teachers and students, as well as all other residents of the district centre will plant over 1,000 saplings. Some of them, the "Sejanets №1" variety, are specially adapted to the local soil. In addition, many will bring young trees from their own household plots, as there is probably no resident in Glubokoye who does not grow cherries. Thus, the town's initiative acquires a personal character for each participant, and the planted tree becomes effectively personalised.
Glubokoye intends to lay a cherry orchard of about 1.5 hectares on April 30. However, in the coming days, it will increase significantly: the plans of the residents of Glubokoye include planting a cherry orchard in the direction of Minsk, where there is a suitable 1 hectare of land for this purpose, and decorating green islands along the town's streets, industrial areas, schools, houses, social facilities, and administrative buildings with trees. There is no doubt that the cherry inspiration will spread at cosmic speed in the near future to all other settlements in the district, the district executive committee is confident.
The laying of the cherry orchard is only part of a huge plan to hold a cherry festival in Glubokoye, an initiative launched last year by the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the District Executive Committee. At the republican competition of creative works for the promotion of cities and regions of Belarus within the framework of the III International Forum "Image of the Republic of Belarus: Time to Act", the Glubokoye project "Cherry Festival" took second place. As a reward, the advertising agency "Kryn", a prize-winner of the international advertising festival "Cannes Lions", developed four variants of the Glubokoye cherry brand for the project. The residents of Glubokoye discussed the choice of the best one throughout the district on the pages of the local press during April, ultimately choosing two cherries connected on a musical staff as the festival's logo.
