July 17, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova – BELTA/. The "Cherry Festival" in Glubokoye will last for a whole week, the Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The celebration will begin on July 21. On this day, a cherry fair will be held, a culinary exhibition will open, and a scientific and practical conference will take place. One of the central events of the day will be the unveiling of the monumental decorative composition "Cherry". The two-meter sculpture, created by Vitebsk sculptor Ivan Kazak, is a cylindrical pedestal stylized as a tree, topped with a branch of ripe cherries made of sulumin.
During the festival week in Glubokoye, a library kaleidoscope "Speak a word about the rosy cherry" and a thematic Film Day will be organized, and the "Sports Cherry" and "Cherry Marathon" competitions will be held at the city stadium.
On July 26, a two-day investment forum will open in Glubokoye, which will continue its work on Saturday.
And on July 27, the festival will flare up with renewed vigor. A review competition of farmsteads "Cherry Abundance" will be organized, a ceremony of postmark cancellation in honor of the "Cherry Festival" with a special postmark will be held, a solemn wedding registration "Cherry Wedding" will take place, a festive concert will be given, and a disco will be organized. The cherry festival will conclude with a colorful fireworks display.
As a memento of the festival, it is planned to name a city street in Glubokoye "Cherry Street", which is located next to the cherry orchard. The residents of Glubokoye planted it in April this year, specifically for the festival.
The Glubokoye district has long been famous for its cherry orchards. The first cherry enthusiast in the region was the local breeder Boleslav Lapyra, who specifically traveled to Poland for seedlings. From his gardens, cherries first moved into the local peasant households, and then spread throughout the region.
Cherry festivals are held in many countries. In the USA, there are two - in Washington and Traverse City, in Croatia, Lovran is considered the cherry capital, in Lithuania - the town of Žagarė, and in Russia - Vladimir.-0-
