The international festival "Cherry Festival" has, over the years, become a vibrant and delicious hallmark of Glubokoye. This opinion was expressed by the First Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee, Alexander Vorona, before the start of the theatrical performance on the main stage of the city, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
The First Deputy Chairman congratulated everyone on the holiday and noted its special atmosphere. "The city truly becomes the cherry capital during these days. The festival is packed with events and stands out with its local flavour. It has been well-received by many and has become a bright and delicious calling card for the city. It has its own heartfelt aura, the festival builds bridges between countries and peoples, and strengthens friendly ties. It is gratifying that the geography of the forum's participants is expanding every year," said Alexander Vorona.
According to him, this year the Glubokoye District Executive Committee signed protocols of intent for cooperation with two regions from Moldova and Poland. In total, delegations from 11 countries have arrived at the festival this year.
For the first time, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Belarus, Kanatsu Naoto, is attending the celebration. The diplomat was pleasantly surprised by the festival's atmosphere and noted the love for cherries among the people of Japan and the Glubokoye district. "Before coming here, I couldn't imagine what an interesting festival was taking place in the city. In our country, this berry is also loved and valued; for us, it is the sakura. For the Japanese, it is the closest plant and a symbol of happiness and the beginning of life. It is very pleasant that cherries are also held in high regard in Glubokoye," noted Kanatsu Naoto.
The "Cherry Festival" is rich in meetings and sincere emotions. Many relatives of Glubokoye residents from other cities and countries visit their in-laws specifically during these days. Among them is the Pashkevich family from Lepel: "This is not our first time in Glubokoye: we are attracted by the festival's flavour and atmosphere. We really enjoy walking around the homesteads, trying various cherry delicacies (the dumplings were very surprising), and buying something from folk artists. For us, the festival is a good reason to meet and spend time with relatives."
The Cherry Festival in Glubokoye concludes today. The final day of the celebration began with the ceremonial procession "Visiting the Cherry" and a theatrical program. Ahead are the "Cherry Paradise" homestead review competition, a concert by Julia Lebedenko, a graduate of the Vienna Conservatory, the "Cherry Wedding" solemn marriage registration, and the "Cherry Melodies" competition for bayan, accordion, and harmonica players. The festival's final chords will be a gala concert, fireworks, and a youth disco.
The "Cherry Festival" is being held in Glubokoye for the seventh time, and in 2017 it was granted international status. Last year, the "Cherry Queen's" residence appeared on the shore of Lake Kagalnoye in the city center. The Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Glubokoye District Executive Committee are the organizers of the forum.
