VITEBSK, 25 October (BelTA) - The first L-410 aircraft for the Vitavia airline company is scheduled to land at Vitebsk airport in January 2012, Pavel Gorodnov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vitavia Holding Group, told BelTA. In 2012, Vitavia plans to acquire two L-410 aircraft from the Czech company Aircraft Industries a.s. The delivery of the second aircraft is scheduled for March. Both aircraft will be configured for 17 seats, with the option to upgrade the business class cabin for eight passengers. In agreement with the manufacturer, the latter will provide retraining courses for pilot crews from Vitebsk, the first of which will travel to the Czech Republic in December of this year. The entire fleet of Vitavia will comprise five L-410 aircraft. Approximately €17 million will be invested in their purchase. The company aims to develop regional passenger transport and explore the feasibility of launching flights on the routes Vitebsk-Moscow, Vitebsk-Warsaw, and Vitebsk-Kaliningrad. Other routes may also be developed. Following a working meeting at the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, a decision was made to develop air cargo transport from Gomel. There are plans to establish a branch of Vitavia in Gomel and include Gomel Oblast in Vitavia's flight schedule, added Pavel Gorodnov. Concurrently with the development of the airline, preparations are underway for the construction of infrastructure at Vitebsk airport. The company has received permission for the design of a building, hangars, and a customs warehouse covering an area of approximately 5,000 square meters. Furthermore, around 32,000 square meters have been allocated for the construction of administrative facilities, including a business aviation terminal, and approximately 47.5 hectares for a transport and logistics centre. "Unfortunately, permission for the design was only issued on 10 October, which has delayed the development and harmonisation of the draft business plan," stated Pavel Gorodnov. However, despite the delay, the company intends to fulfil its obligations and submit the business plan to the local authorities by the beginning of November, he added.
