A Vitebsk resident attempted to strike a district police officer with a kitchen hatchet, Inna Gorbacheva, chief inspector of the information and public relations group of the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk region, told a BELTA correspondent. The previous day, a woman born in 1981 approached the district police inspector of the Rubа settlement near Vitebsk with a complaint about her neighbour, who had threatened her and her family with death. The police officer arrived at the troublemaker's place accompanied by officers from the Department of Protection. The man opened the door to the apartment and struck the district police officer on the head with a kitchen hatchet. Currently, the police officer has been hospitalised in the ENT department of the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital with a contused-lacerated wound to the ear. The man who attacked him, born in 1976, has been detained and placed in the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital, where he is undergoing inpatient treatment. A check on this fact is being conducted by the Zheleznodorozhny District Department of the Investigative Committee. -0-
