A resident of Vitebsk managed to save an elderly woman from a fire, the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations informed a BELTA correspondent. Late last evening, in the gardening cooperative "Michurinets" (Ulanovichi), the owner of a dacha house on Poselkovaya Street noticed smoke and open flames in the neighboring house. He called the rescuers. At the same time, another neighbor, who also saw the fire, rushed into the house to save the people living there. Near the threshold, the Vitebsk resident found a 73-year-old elderly woman who had lost consciousness and pulled her out of the burning house. An ambulance crew took the pensioner to the hospital with severe carbon monoxide poisoning. Another family member – a distant relative of the elderly woman – could not be saved by neighbors or emergency services due to the intense flames. The cause of the fire was a man smoking while intoxicated. Moreover, as it turned out, the fire in the ill-fated house occurred twice that day: in the evening, neighbors, also discovering smoke, entered the house and had to extinguish a burning sofa on their own, while the owners were in an intoxicated state after consuming alcohol.
