16 December, Vitebsk /Alena Tikhonova - BELTA/. The Vitebsk region has the best results in the country for attracting investment, as stated today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, at a joint meeting of the Presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies and the Regional Executive Committee, which discussed the results of the region's national economy in 2013 and the forecast for 2014, reports BELTA correspondent.
Alexander Kosinets noted that for January-October 2013, a stable positive trend was observed in the region for the vast majority of forecast indicators. "The Vitebsk region has the best results in the country for attracting investment (growth rate - over 130%), export of services, and the amount of monetary resources directed towards the renewal of the active part of industry and the agro-industrial complex. The region has the minimum volumes of warehouse stocks," said the governor.
"The region leads the country in construction and installation work. For January-October, almost Br6.7 trillion was developed, with contract work amounting to Br5.5 trillion. These are significant figures. On Saturday, we received high-quality MDF board from the new production facility of OJSC "Vitebskdrev". The Ice Palace was commissioned, and the modernization of the second stage of the Orsha Flax Combine was practically completed. New processing enterprises were built: cheese production has begun in Braslav and Postavy," stated Alexander Kosinets.
Out of 15 key indicators for socio-economic development, the region is fulfilling more than 10. "The forecast indicator for gross regional product is not being met. The reasons are the insufficient amount of products received in the petrochemical complex, as well as low volumes of housing construction. Housing commissioned by the end of the year will be in the range of 350-400 thousand sq.m. These figures are due to the fact that not all those on the waiting list agreed to participate in the construction process," emphasized the governor. According to Alexander Kosinets, under these conditions, the construction complex had to reorient its capacities towards the construction and modernization of industrial enterprises, as well as facilities in the agro-industrial complex, trade, and social sphere.-0-
